March 14, 2008 Through the rain, wind and cold, Foothill distance athletes proved their worth Friday night under the clouds and the lights at Amador Valley. Just a day after running long and hard against Cal, several Foothill athletes bounced back to compete with nearly 800 athletes hudled under tents, tarps and blankets! For the girls, Jennifer Goldstein led the charge in the 1600 meters, placing second in her heat in 5:41.11. This was good enough for 8th in the entire field, which consisted of 96 athletes! Carrie Thompson, Sara Nolan, Stephanie Biehl and Mollie Richardson came close to breaking th 6:00 mark for the 1600. In the 800, Lauren Rodriguez led three Foothill athletes all within about a second of one another with at time of 2:39.41, just ahead of Michelle Horton and Jordan Craig. For the boys, Sam Hyams (with the wrong race number) and Matt Yankowski were the highest teammates in the 1600 meters, seperated by about 5 seconds and both placing in the top 5! Sam, after running the 3200 on Thursday, broke the 4:30 mark, running 4:26.66, while Matt, coming off an 800 and 1600 on Thursday, still ran faster and finished in 4:31.93. Jim Heppner ran alone during his entire race and took first in his heat in 4:41.97. Omar Gonzalez rounded out the 1600 runners, breaking 5:00 and finishing in 4:56.89. In the 800, Sam continued to run well, again placing top 5 and nearly breaking 2:00 in the cold (2:00. 64). Omar took the place of Will Loewenhardt, and freshman Daniel See also ran a very strong 800. Brian Faggiano also hopped in for Tyler Stetson in the 800.
